A fire broke out at a home in Independence early Friday morning.
Independence Fire Captain Jason Blystone reports a residential fire occurred at 7:03 a.m. on Friday morning in the 500 block of South Evanston Avenue in Independence.
One person, who was the homeowner, was taken to an ambulance, but refused treatment, says Blystone. No other people were reported to be inside the home. He adds that one fireman who worked the call experienced a minor shoulder injury as well.
Blystone said 50 percent of the home was damaged, and that it was previously “tagged as a dangerous building and utilities were discontinued.”
The fire originated toward the rear of the structure, he says, and the cause is yet to be determined.
“The cold weather hindered us a little bit, but we put it out.”
