At approximately 2:30 a.m. on February 11, the Macon Fire Department responded to a fire in a two-story apartment building located at 212 Duff Street with two fire trucks, one service company truck and 14 firefighters. Upon arrival, heavy smoke and fire was coming from the second story of the building. Mutual Aid was requested for manpower from the Macon Rural Fire Department and the Bevier Fire Department due to extreme weather conditions. The fire was brought under control in approximately five and a half hours. According to Macon Fire Chief Ross Dutton, the fire was a total loss and all the occupants of the apartment building were displaced. The fire department is unable to determine at this time the exact cause of the fire. The fire department was assisted on scene by the Macon Police Department, Macon County Ambulance District, Bevier Fire Department, Macon Rural Fire Department, Macon Municipal Utilities, Macon Emergency Management Director and the American Red Cross.
