  • The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is warning county residents of a recent scam.
Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ronda Montgomery says a male caller is calling county residents and identifying himself as a lieutenant with the Sheriff’s Office. He tells the victims they have failed to appear for jury duty and that there is a warrant out for their arrest.
The caller then tells the victims to go to a local convenience store and purchase a “Green Dot Money Pack” in the amount of their bond and notify the caller when they have purchased the card. After being given the security numbers on the cards, the caller has gained access to the money on the cards.
Montgomery warns residents that the Sheriff’s Office would never solicit funds over the phone, and that all payment of fees is conducted in person.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who receives a similar call to ignore the caller’s requests, hang up and call the Investigations Division at 816-524-4302.
