• Lee's Summit man pleads guilty, gets 12 years in sex case

  • A Lee’s Summit man pleaded guilty Friday in a sex case involving a 13-year-old Lake Lotawana girl.
    Codey J. Everhart, 22, pleaded guilty in Jackson County court to first-degree statutory sodomy. As part of a plea agreement, he was sentenced to 12 years in state prison.
    Two other counts originally filed against Everhart were dismissed.
    After the incident Everhart sent the victim’s mother an apology via text message. According to court records, he texted, “Omg im so sorry...it was the biggest mistake IV ever made plz I’m sorry plz don’t call the cops.... Ihave kids...plz I will do whatever u want I’m so sorry.”
    The incident occurred Aug. 10, 2013, at the Lake Lotawana home of the girl. Everhart had knocked on the victim’s window and asked if the girl wanted to go somewhere with him but she declined. He asked to use the bathroom and she let him inside the house. The crime occurred after he used the bathroom.
