Needing a medical checkup, but can't afford the doctor's bill? A free Health and Wellness Expo will be Saturday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to noon at Van Horn High School, at 1109 Arlington Ave. in Independence.

The event presented by the Independence School District and City of Independence Health Department is for everyone and will offer free health services, such as health and wellness screenings, pertinent health and wellness information and Q&A sessions with physicians.

Marketplace and financial assistance education will be available, too. Register at the event to attend one of the seminars.

Prizes, healthy food and giveaways will be distributed as well. Raffle drawings for an iPod nano, Kindle Fire and smoke detectors will be held, along with goodie bags.
