By the way, this blog's name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, \x34All politics is applesauce.\x34 In 41 years as a print and broadcast journalist, most of those years with the Rockford (Ill.) Register Star, Pat has covered national politics under eight American presidents. He's attended 10 national political conventions, Republican and Democratic alike, and has interviewed countless prominent political players, including Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush.

While we’re still two years away from the first primary elections in the race for the 2016 Republican nomination, it should not be too soon for one of the likely candidates to have at least something resembling a lead

But there isn’t anyone who even vaguely seems to be the man to beat. Instead, all we see is a field of nine or ten potential candidates (Huckabee, Bush, Cruz, Ryan, Rubio, Christie, Paul, Walker, Jindal and perhaps Perry),  each of whom has strikes against him and none of whom seems likely to catch fire soon among the badly divided GOP ...
