Brendan Mitchell, 18, the son of Eric and Jennifer Mitchell of Blue Springs and Shauna and Russell Harter of Independence, recently received his Eagle Scout rank. Brendan went through scouting with his grandpa, Andy Mitchell, who has been a leader in Troop 257 and a leader from Troop 209. Brendan earned his Arrow of Light in Cub Scouts from Troop 209 and then bridged over to Troop 257 in Boy Scouts.
Brendan earned 42 merit badges and has served his troop as a patrol leader, senior patrol leader, a chaplain's aide and den chief. He attended H. Roe Bartle Scout Camp for seven years. Brendan is currently a Tom-Tom Beater in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and his tribal name is Tom-Tom Beater Grandson of Silver Iron Spider.
For his Eagle Project, he built four wooden bookcases to be used in two Independence School District elementary schools. He had help from troop leaders and boy scouts from Troop 257.
Brendan is a senior at Blue Springs South High School.
His Eagle Scout ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. March 23 at Beacon Heights Community of Christ Church.
