William Chrisman High School teacher John Vickers was selected as the Independence School District’s Teacher of the Year for the 2014-15 school year.

Vickers has been with the district for 16 years. He was selected by a panel of judges from the Independence community. The district says Vickers has set the bar high for his students by having them routinely score in the top tier of the End of Course assessments.

“What inspires me is the relationship aspect of teaching and getting to know my students,” said Vickers in a release. “I get to see them set goals and achieve them making real world connections.”

He also said his fellow teachers and coaches “pour their heart, soul and craft” into their profession.
