The Spirit of Independence Concert Band will present a spring concert at 3 p.m. March 23 in the William Chrisman High School Auditorium, U.S. 24 and Noland Road, Independence.
The 60-member community band, conducted by area musician and educator Danny Lane, will perform an hour-long program of music. There will be a wide variety of numbers, including swing and ragtime selections, circus tunes and marches, light classics, and a medley from the musical Show Boat.
Now in its 17th season, the Concert Band performs year-round at various locales. In addition to a series of indoor concerts, they are regular performers at the Independence July 4th celebration, the Independence Mayor's Christmas Concert, the Bingham-Waggoner Estate Craft Fair, the Vaile Mansion Strawberry Festival, and other area events. Members range from high school and college students to retirees.
Admission to the concert is free.
