To the editor:

This letter is a response to Tuesday’s article headlined “Independence urged to restrict e-cigarettes.”

I respectfully disagree with Dr. Donald Potts in his desire to restrict e-cigarettes in Independence. This strikes me as paternalism. The people of Independence are capable of making up their own minds whether or not they choose to use e-cigarettes. There is no second-hand smoke to irritate us non-smokers. I see people using them in public places, and it does not bother me in the least. Live and let live.

I have no doubt of the good intentions of Dr. Potts. He is a great citizen of Independence. I simply think that he is wrong in this issue. There are plenty of issues in Independence that sincerely impact the citizens of our city. This is not one of them.
