  • A tough Lee’s Summit West team was too much for Blue Springs in a boys tennis season opener, posting an 8-0 victory Wednesday at West.
    “The weather was awful,” Blue Springs coach Jody McClain said. “West will be one of the best teams we will face this season.”
    West was a 7-1 junior varsity winner.
    HIGGINSVILLE 8, GRAIN VALLEY 0: Host Higginsville spoiled the Grain Valley season opener Wednesday.
    “It was a rough match,” Grain Valley coach Mary Elliott said. “It was very cold and windy. Several players were playing their first varsity match. We will build on today.”
