The poor weather conditions on Wednesday couldn’t stop the Blue Springs South boys tennis team.
The host Jaguars opened the season with a 5-1 victory over the Kearney Bulldogs Tuesday. They match was halted with doubles matches in action because of rainy and windy weather.
Paul Providence (10-1), Jared Martin (10-1), Nic Mandina (10-6), Jose Garchitorena (10-4) and freshman Dalton Michael (10-3) claimed singles wins for South.
“Even under the crazy conditions the guys handled it very professionally,” first-year South head coach Nathan Mooney said. “It takes a lot of patience and wits to be able to play well, and they all played some good matches.”
Mooney lauded the play of Dalton and Evan Alumbaugh, who fell 10-8.
“Both had their first varsity matches,” he said. “They both played well.”
