Oak Grove’s Bryce Mercer got the high school boys golf season off to a strong start.

Mercer fired a 5-over-par 77 to tie for second in the Oak Grove Invitational Thursday at Adams Point Golf Club in Blue Springs.

Mercer finished five strokes behind medalist Brett Windsor of Boonville, who shot an even-par 72. The host Panthers didn’t fare as well as a team, finishing seventh at 420. Grain Valley took fourth at 375 as Nevada won the title at 324.

Hunter Peterson shot 86 to tie for 14th and lead Grain Valley. Cameron Skinner (90), Miguel Contreras (95) and Kevin Barker (104) completed the Eagles’ scoring.

Quin Bunyar shot 94 for Oak Grove.
