The Rotary Club of Independence recognized two Truman High School seniors, Christian Janota and Shaye Davis, as students of the month for March.
• Christian Janota is ranked No. 1 in his senior class with a 4.6 weighted grade point average after seven semesters.
This McCoy Award winner has six Varsity letters, including an Academic Letter winner for three years. After class, Janota is involved with Truman’s Student Council, Senior PATS program to aid freshmen and Youth LEAD program. Besides those extracurricular activities, he has also played basketball and baseball and ran cross country for his school all 4 years.
Janota plans to attend Kansas State University to study aerospace engineering. His parents are Tyrone and Michelle Janota.
• Shaye Davis is a 2-time academic letter recipient and McCoy Medal Award winner, as well as being in the top 50 of her graduating class.
Davis was also a 2-time National Individual Event Tournament of Champions qualifier in forensics and a MSHSAA state qualifier in duet acting. Plus she was awarded the LeRoy Brown Excellence in Journalism award. After school, Davis is vice president of the school’s Speech and Debate team, vice president of the Truman’s chapter of the National Honor Society, executive producer of Truman’s daily newscast and a member of the Spirit, Spanish and Spanish National Honor Society clubs.
She will be attending the Tisch School of the Arts in New York City where she will be majoring in Film & Television.
