A man who drove through a red stoplight at the intersection of Missouri 291 and Salisbury Road in Independence Tuesday morning caused a traffic accident involving two other vehicles.
Sgt. Darrell Schmidli of the Independence Police said police and emergency crews responded to a vehicular accident involving three automobiles at 10:15 a.m. Although he says the exact details of what happened are still being investigated, the man who allegedly ran the red light fled the scene and was later found hiding in a nearby residential neighborhood.
“Police found him on foot,” added Schmidli. “He was taken into custody and later charged for a hit and run.”
Schmidli also says some of the occupants from the other involved vehicles had minor injuries.
No other information about the victims or the suspect who fled the scene of the accident was released.
