To the editor:

I like to encourage women to run for political office and I encouraged Eileen Weir to run for City Council in 2012. She has worked hard but not harder than her opponent, Jim Schultz.

While on the council for 12 years, Jim has earned the respect and trust of the people of Independence, as well as officials from other cities in the area. Jim’s management style reminds me of a quote from Harry Truman, “I am willing and want to pass the credit around. The objective is the thing, not personal aggrandizement.” We need Jim’s steady, positive leadership to continue on the council.
