  • The William Chrisman girls soccer team can blame the schedule for its 0-2 Suburban Middle Seven start.
The opening two games were against conference power Staley. The Bears fell 10-0 on March 31 and then 4-0 Tuesday as Lize Mann scored two goals.
“Our keeper, Jordyn Atagi, played an incredible game,” Chrisman coach John Straub said. “She had 13 saves, or the score would have been worse.”
Staley led 2-0 at halftime in dropping Chrisman to 3-3 overall.
Staley posted a 5-0 junior varsity victory.
GRAIN VALLEY 3, EXCELSIOR SPRINGS 2: The Missouri River Valley Conference West opener turned into a case of survival for Grain Valley,
Samantha Berg scored two goals, including what proved to be the game-winner as Grain Valley posted a 3-2 home victory Tuesday night.
“This was a hard-fought win in a physical game,” Grain Valley coach Aleana Balistreri said. “Samantha Berg came up big tonight with two goals. It was a good team effort.”
Kali Carson scored the other goal for the Eagles (5-2, 1-0).
Grain Valley rolled 5-1 in the junior varsity game.
FORT OSAGE 3, BELTON 1: Fort Osage made a 2-1 halftime lead stand up for the Suburban Middle Seven victory at Belton. Zoe Bedsworth, Marina Rios and Leigh-Anne Bartlett scored the goals for the Indians (5-1, 3-0).
“It was a solid performance,” Fort Osage coach Andrew Fletcher said. “The Belton goalie is tough, especially at Belton. I was pleased with how we played and the result.”
Fort Osage lost the junior varsity match 4-0.
