  • The Buckner police chief has been charged in a domestic violence case in Buckner.
Lawrence Michael Cook, 46, of Wellington, faces one count of domestic violence assault from an incident that allegedly happened on April 2.
On April 2, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a 17-year-old male not breathing in the 27000 block of Atherton-Sibley Road. Fort Osage EMS responded and took the male to a local hospital. The victim survived and has been released from the hospital
Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ronda Montgomery said the subsequent investigation revealed that the victim had attempted to commit suicide after having been allegedly assaulted by his father at a location on Washington Street in Buckner.
Cook was arrested by Sheriff’s Office deputies and was allowed to sign and be released on his own recognizance. His first court date has been scheduled for June 4.
