Area high school girls soccer teams are using upcoming games to join the battle against cancer.
The Blue Springs and Blue Springs South squads will play Cancer Battler Cup V May 8 at Blue Springs South’s Larry Stewart Memorial Stadium.
The teams also will host the annual Cancer Battler Cup Pancake Fundraiser 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Blue Springs Applebee’s restaurant (1100 N.W. Missouri 7). Cost is $7 per person for pancakes, a drink and a chance at winning one of two $50 Visa gift cards,
CBC V event T-shirts will be on sale for $10 each for the Thursday, May 8 game, and Sporting Kansas City tickets for the Wednesday, May 14 match against the Philadelphia Union will be on sale for only $25 each.
All proceeds will benefit the Jennifer Ireland Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting cancer (www.jif4families.com).
• The Lee’s Summit North and Lee’s Summit West girls soccer teams will host the Third Annual Big Monday Soccer Showdown Pink Out game on Monday, April 21 at Lee’s Summit North.
The C-team game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m., with the junior varsity game to follow at approximately 5 p.m. and the varsity showdown at approximately 6:30 p.m. The varsity game will be televised by TWC SportsChannel (Comcast Cable channel 44).
Free admission for fans wearing a 2014 Pink Out T-shirt, which can be purchased for $10 each from a North or West soccer player. The game will also feature a silent auction, balloon release, guest speaker, local sports celebrities and special halftime entertainment. All proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen for a Cure Foundation. Last year’s event raised nearly $15,000.
