The Kansas City Zoo is celebrating Mother Earth with a Party for the Planet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

High school artists will be painting live all around the Zoo. You can have your own painting created on your canvas by face painters; interact with roving puppets from the Stone Lion Puppet Theater; and learn about conservation programs and activities that you can do at home.

You’re invited to create a masterpiece out of your household scraps and enter the Scraps To Sculptures contest. The sculptures you have created out of everyday scraps will be on display during the Zoo's Earth Day celebration.

To enter, bring your sculpture to Guest Relations between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday. You will receive 2 free admissions for Saturday. You’ll need to let Zoo employees know if you have specific display instructions, otherwise, the sculpture will be given a number and placed out on Saturday morning. Guests will vote on their favorite sculptures and winners will be announced at 3 p.m. and each receives a prize.
