Independence Police and Union Pacific Railway teamed up Thursday to check for drivers violating railroad crossing signals.

Officers monitored crossings, including this one near the Independence Square at Walnut Street and Noland Road, between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. During that time they made several arrests and citations: 46 railroad crossing violations, three other moving violations, six no proof of insurance, two vehicle license, two seat belt violations and five citations for trespassing along the railroad right of way.

The project, part of Operation Lifesaver, was staffed by 10 Independence officers and two Union Pacific special agents.
