  • Easter eggs and other fun events
    The inaugural Egg-stravaganza Fun Day, sponsored by Ebony & Ivory Multicultural and Miracle House, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday (April 19) at RJ Roper Field, 131 S. Carlisle Ave., Sugar Creek.
    There will be 10,000 Easter eggs and the egg hunts will be divided into age groups, 0 to 2 years, 3 to 5 years and 6 to 11 years. This event includes giveaways, games, bounce houses, face painting, live music and food. A free car will also be given away.

    Trinity Episcopal Easter egg hunt
    Trinity Episcopal Church will hold an Easter egg hunt from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday (April 19) at the church, 409 N. Liberty St., Independence.

    Family block party planned
    Beverly Hills Baptist Church is hosting a family fun block party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (April 19) on the parking lot at 31st Street and Crysler Avenue, Independence.
    This free community event includes inflatables, face painting, food, games and prizes. The grand prize will be an iPad mini.

    Nativity of Mary rummage sale
    The Nativity of Mary Altar Society is holding its annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 26, at the Nativity of Mary Parish Hall, 10017 E. 36th Terrace, Independence.
    Drop-off times for donations are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 18 and 19. If you have a donation and need help with pick-up or have other questions, call Lucy Lamb at 816-461-0160.

    Golf tournament for St. Mark’s
    St. Mark’s Catholic Church will hold its 10th Annual Golf Tournament Friday at Adams Pointe Golf Course in Blue Springs. The shotgun start is at 8 a.m.

    Biscuits and gravy on the menu
    Fairmount Christian Church will serve a free biscuit-and-gravy breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. April 26, 641 S. Ash Ave., Independence.
    On Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m., the church has a youth program for teens, and a children’s program for ages kindergarten through sixth grade.

    Organist will play at the Temple
    Gregory Hand, assistant professor of organ at the University of Iowa, will perform at 3 p.m. April 27 at the Community of Christ Temple, River Boulevard and Walnut Street, Independence.
    He has participated in several international organ competitions, including the Grand Prix de Chartres (France), St. Albans (England), Prix Andre Marchal (France), and the Dublin International Organ Competition. He is also active as a harpsichordist and continuo player.

    Living Green Expo coming up
    Beacon Heights Community of Christ, in partnership with the Central Mission Center and local businesses and organizations, will host a Living Green Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 3 at the Family Life Center gym, 500 W. Pacific Ave., Independence.
    This free event is focused on providing resources and information through hands-on demonstrations and presentations, booth and vendor spaces, a kids zone as well as a peace mobile with interactive displays and games. Topics include reducing environmental footprint through energy conservation, recycling, etc.; improving physical health by using natural products, consuming organic food and exercise; and saving money by growing and making your own items, buying second hand, etc.
    Shopping expo at Blue Springs Assembly
    Blue Springs Assembly will hold a spring shopping expo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 3 at the church, 2501 Duncan Road.
    Items include jewelry and women’s accessories featuring local artists, gardening, clothes, crafts, cooking and kitchenware, and name-brand items.
