  • Five people barricaded themselves inside a Blue Springs motel room for nearly eight hours early Friday morning after allegedly stealing a vehicle in Leawood, Kansas.
Capt. Kevin Cauley of Leawood Police said his department was investigating an auto theft Thursday night at 10:30 p.m. in the vicinity of 143rd Street and Windsor Street in Leawood. After receiving a tip, they located the stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee at the America’s Best Value Inn, 915 N.W. Jefferson St. in Blue Springs, and contacted Blue Springs Police to help them with the investigation.
“We (BSPD) found the car, figured out the suspects’ room number, knocked on the door, but no response,” said Blue Springs Police Public Information Officer Jeremy Dickstein. He said the five suspects barricaded themselves inside the room from approximately 3 to 10:30 a.m. Friday morning. All other guests at the motel were evacuated.
During the standoff, Dickstein said, the Blue Springs Police’s S.T.A.T. team obtained and executed a search warrant, where they made entry into the motel room and apprehended the five suspects. The suspects were three white males and two females, he said. Their ages range from 19 to 20 years old. Four of them are from Kansas and one is from Belton, he said.
Dickstein said four of the suspects were arrested on outstanding warrants, but one of the female suspects was later released from police custody. He assumes that Leawood Police will file charges in connection to the allegedly stolen Jeep Cherokee.
