  • The Blue Springs baseball team came through when it counted.
    Especially Ramon Rivera.
He singled in the tying run in the sixth inning and doubled in what proved to be the winning run in the seventh as the Wildcats rallied for an 8-5 Suburban Big Six victory over host Lee’s Summit North Wednesday.
“It was a big win,” Blue Springs coach Tim McElligott said. “It might get us the No. 2 seed in districts. The kids came through.”
North led 4-2 after four innings. Blue Springs scored a run each in the fifth and sixth innings to tie it and then broke open the game with four runs in the seventh. Dylan Williams executed a perfect run-scoring squeeze bunt to help the rally.
Devon Sesler pitched the final three innings in relief of Erique Jordan for the win.
“He shut them down,” McElligott said of Sesler, who walked none, struck out two and allowed three hits.
Blue Springs improved to 11-12 overall and 3-3 in the conference while snapping a five-game winning streak for North (10-11, 1-5).
Dillon Jackson added two singles to the Blue Springs attack.
