A 40-year-old Lee’s Summit man has been charged in shooting his son, said Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
Chad M. Beatie, 40, faces domestic assault and armed criminal action charges from an incident on May 9 at his home on Northeast Ridgeview Drive.
According to court documents, Lee’s Summit Police received a call from the victim saying he was shot. The victim also said he had been shot by his father, Beatie.
Witnesses said the victim and suspect had been drinking for hours. Witnesses told police the victim and suspect were working on a motorcycle and instructed the victim’s girlfriend to go to the basement. The girlfriend later heard the victim saying he had been shot, said witnesses.
The suspect’s girlfriend also reported that she saw Beatie and the victim fight on the floor of a garage. Later on, she was awakened by a gunshot and saw the suspect standing in the garage with a handgun.
Beatie told police that he shot the victim.
Police recovered a gun and it was the same type of gun that would have left the shell casing found at the crime scene, according to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s office.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $250,000.
