The city of Independence is offering another Community Emergency Response Training class next month. The city has hundreds of CERT volunteers.
Those who take the training learn basic emergency response skills. The concept behind the program is that people can help themselves, their families and friends, and others without placing themselves in danger.
The classes are on back-to-back weekends: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, June 6 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 7, and then the same hours June 13 and 14. Classes are in the training room of the emergency operations center at Fire Station No. 1, 950 N. Spring St.
The training is free. Manuals will be available during the classes, or they can be downloaded free. Lunch is not provided on Saturdays, and participants are invited to bring their own snacks or drinks. Participants are asked to bring a paper and pen.
