  • HARRISONVILLE, Mo. – Kali Carson made the most of a golden opportunity.
Her penalty kick goal with about nine minutes remaining lifted Grain Valley to a 2-1 victory over league leader Harrisonville Thursday night and clinched a tie for the Missouri River Valley Conference title.
“This was a huge win for us,” Grain Valley coach Aleana Balistreri said after her Eagles finished 6-2 in conference play while improving to 14-9 overall. “We gave up an early goal but the girls fought so hard tonight. Scoring right before halftime helped us gain some momentum going into the second half.”
Reighan Childers scored on a Samanatha Berg assist in the 39th minute to tie it 1-1. Harrisonville went up 1-0 early on Hayley Parker’s goal in the sixth minute.
WILLIAM CHRISMAN 2, NORTH KANSAS CITY 1: First-half goals by Sydney Croucher and Allyssa Kyle stood up as William Chrisman posted a Suburban Middle Seven win over North Kansas City in its regular-season finale.
“It was cold and windy, but I’m glad we won,” Chrisman coach John Straub said.
Chrisman finished the regular season 8-11 overall and 4-8 in the conference.
Chrisman also was a 2-1 winner in the junior varsity game.
