Commander John Phillips of American Legion Post 379 recently announced Austin Blackston, Dalton Brinegar, Caleb Drecktrah, Alexander Huttinger, Jacob Ledger and Michail Winstead of Oak Grove High School will be participating in The American Legion Boys State of Missouri program to be held June 14 through 21 on the campus of the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Each student was nominated by his high school based on his leadership, citizenship, academics and character.
Established in 1938, Missouri Boys State is one of the most prestigious youth leadership and citizenship training programs in the nation for high school juniors. During the eight-day program, students will experience government through a hands-on learning approach, enhance their leadership skills, and develop an understanding of their rights and responsibilities as citizens.
Students who will be juniors during the 2014-2015 academic year and are interested in attending the 2015 session (June 13-20), should contact their high school counselor or visit the Missouri Boys State website at www.moboysstate.org.
Organizations, businesses and individuals interested in becoming a sponsor may call Missouri Boys State Headquarters at 1-877-342-5627.
