What advice do you have for next year’s freshmen?

Stay devoted to your studies no matter what all the other kids have to say. High school can have a negative atmosphere and you just have to rise above it. Always do your homework, even when you don’t want to. Every grade counts. High school is fun; make the most of your time because it flies by. It feels just like yesterday I walked through the doors as a freshman.

Who was your favorite teacher and why?

Mr. Stephens was my Physics I, Physics II, and Chemistry I teacher. He has a unique teaching style. The amount of effort you decide to put into his class will be directly reflected in your grade. It all falls on you, and he lets you know that. I feel like this is the closest I ever got to what I thought a college professor would be like. On top of that, he loves teaching and he was always there to help me out. He is an incredibly intelligent guy and was always willing to help his kids.

When you were not in school or studying, what did you enjoy doing?

I enjoyed playing baseball and training all-year round. I also enjoyed being in the outdoors fishing, hunting, or just walking around. Family and friends are a big part of my life. I always look for something to do with them first before my own hobbies.

What college do you plan to attend and why?

I plan to attend Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kansas. The campus is set up more like a university because you actually have to walk to your classes in separate buildings. I’m also going there to play baseball on a baseball scholarship. The faculty there is devoted to helping the kids’ studies and to help them succeed to the best of their ability. I’m very excited about this opportunity.

What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?

I see myself out of college and hopefully on a career path of my liking. Right now I’m thinking either the medical field or engineering. I hope to be successful in whatever I choose and happy with my job and location.
