• JROTC Cadets earn recognition

  • On April 30, the Corps of Cadets, along with friends, special guests and family members, assembled in the Van Horn auditorium for the annual end of year awards ceremony.
    Thirty-four different civic, historic societies, patriotic organizations or soldier support organizations presented 45 medals on behalf of their national organizations and membership. The following cadets were presented awards:
    • Vietnam Veterans of America Medal – Jacob Burch

    • American Military Retiree Association – Matthew Harris

    • The following individuals made award presentations: Dr. Dale Herl, Independence Superintendent of Schools; Dr. Matt Mallinson, Sugar Creek mayor; Mark Clark, Dennis Mooney and Cecilie Eli, American Legion Post 21; Curranzo Lewis and Omer Rogers, Tuskegee Airman Inc, Heart of America Chapter; Richard Crandell, Westport Camp, Sons of Union Veterans; Robert Grover, Sons of the American Revolution, Harry S Truman Chapter; Gary Barron, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry; Col.-retired Bruce Everland, Military Officers Association of America; Marsha Miller, Daughters of American Colonists, Slater Chapter; Lavone Anglen and Martha Noland, Daughters of 1812, James Kearney Chapter; and Sgt.     • The top three male cadets were Logan Putthoff, Robert Barber and Matthew Harris.
    • The top three female cadets were Britany Sharp, Tamarra Carroll and AjaLeigh Marshall.
    • The following three cadets were recognized for special achievements: Joshua R. Rameriz and Cadet Zac Marshall were selected to attend the eight-day Missouri Boys State, and Racquel Marino-Hill was selected to attend Missouri Girls State. All three were sponsored by Tiery J. Ford American Legion Post 21 and Post 21 Auxiliary. Rameriz will also attend the Missouri Cadet Patrol Academy.
