To the editor:
On April 26, I was in attendance a the Sons of the American Revolution awards service. This was the awards luncheon for their state conference. I was there as my son received an award. Of course I was proud of him.
I was equally as proud of Josh Ramirez, a junior at Van Horn High School. He received a outstanding youth award for participation in the Junior ROTC. He was recommended for this award by Lt. Col.-Retired Mike Byrd. He had to write an essay on a subject pertaining to the Revolution. He was chosen from all others from around the state to represent ROTC .
At the luncheon, he read his essay. With a strong voice, he read the essay, which was concise, clearly understandable and his facts were correct.
Josh is a young man headed for leadership roles wherever he goes. He represented Independence and Van Horn with dignity. We should be proud of such representation at the school, city and state.
