  • First Christian offers breakfast
    A community breakfast will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday (May 31) at the First Christian Church, 125 S. Pleasant St., Independence.
    The cost is $3.50 for either a half order of biscuits and gravy or all-you-can-eat pancakes with sausage; $5 for a full order of biscuits and gravy. All meals include coffee and orange juice. For information, call the church at 816-252-6100.
    Strawberry Festival set
    Trinity Presbyterian Church will hold its annual strawberry festival from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday (June 1) at the church, 1400 W. Sheley Road, Independence. There will be fresh strawberries and strawberry desserts of all kinds. Donations are accepted. For questions, call the church at 252-5893.
    Local church aids City Union Mission
    The Church and Society Ministry Unit from Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Blue Springs will serve breakfast at City Union Mission on June 7.
    The Youth Fellowship will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. June 26 at Burr Oak Woods. There will be a picnic and hike. Contact Michelle for further information.

    ‘Make Us One’ is sermon theme
    Arthur Butler will speak on the theme “Make Us One” at the 10:20 a.m. worship service on Sunday (June 1) at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.
    Butler, born and raised in England, came to the United States to attend Graceland University. He had been a member of the Stone Church congregation for 13 years.

    St. Mark’s plans yearly garage sale
    St. Mark’s Catholic Church will hold its annual garage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with a “bag sale” from 8 a.m. to noon June 7, at the church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Road, Independence. Proceeds will be used for mission trips and retreats for their youth.
    Oakland UMC sets open house
    Oakland United Methodist Church is holding an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. June 7, 30701 E. Truman Road, Buckner. Wedding dresses and photos will be on display. Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.
    Monthly health clinic scheduled
    Glenwood Park Methodist Church will hold a free health clinic from 9 a.m. to noon June 7.
    The church, at 10000 E. 23rd St., Independence, holds the clinics on the first Saturday of the month. The screenings, sponsored by the Black Nurse Association and the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, include glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index testing.

    St. Bernadette rummage sale
    St. Bernadette Church is holding its annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 10, 11 and 12 at the church, 9018 E. 51st Terrace, Kansas City. June 12 is “$5 sack day.”
    Items include furniture, housewares, collectibles, clothing, jewelry, appliances, tools, books, yard equipment, workbenches and more.
