    St. Mark’s yearly garage sale
    The final day of the St. Mark’s Catholic Church annual garage sale will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday (June 7), at the church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Road, Independence. Proceeds will be used for mission trips and retreats for their youth.
    Oakland UMC sets open house
    Oakland United Methodist Church is holding an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday (June 7), 30701 E. Truman Road, Buckner. Wedding dresses and photos will be on display. Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.
    Monthly health clinic scheduled
    Glenwood Park Methodist Church will hold a free health clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday (June 7.)
    The church, at 10000 E. 23rd St., Independence, holds the clinics on the first Saturday of the month. The screenings, sponsored by the Black Nurse Association and the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, include glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index testing.

    Adam’s Army blood drive Sunday
    The Community Blood Center will hold the Adam's Army Blood Drive on Sunday (June 8) at Timothy Lutheran Ministries at 425 N.W. Road Mize Road, Blue Springs.
    The blood drive is in honor of Adam Reed, the oldest of the five children of Mary and Jeff Reed. Adam was diagnosed with leukemia just before his 13th birthday in 2003. During his two-year unsuccessful fight with leukemia, Adam was supported by many friends and relatives, and especially his Timothy family, who became known as Adam's Army.

    Multitalented guest at Northern Boulevard
    Brian Arnold will play and speak at the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday (June 8) at Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church in Independence.
    Arnold is an author, speaker, evangelist, singer, songwriter and musician, who formerly was with the group Chosen Few.

    Page 2 of 3 - Handbell choir will perform on Sunday
    The Raytown Christian Church Handbell Choir will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday (June 8) at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Pleasant St., Independence.
    This is the first of three summer concerts on the second Sundays of June, July and August at First Presbyterian. The series continues in July with organist Scott Foppiano, and in August with pianist and composer Mark Hayes.
    The Raytown Christian Church handbell program began in 1971. They have participated in area and national festivals of the Handbell Musicians of America since 1976. Members are Heather Monaco, Matt Hunsucker, DiAnne Atkin, Susan Patton, Jon Grider, Zach Winders, John Starr, Dana Scott, Ann Fischer, Julie Winders, Donald Hannah, Denise Best, and Nancy Hornbostel. They are directed by Suanne Comfort.

    Groves celebrating Pentacost Sunday
    The Groves Community of Christ congregation celebrates Pentecost at 10:15 a.m. Sunday (June 8), with Rev. D. Duane Stephens bringing the message “Filled with the Spirit.” The service will be held in the Community Room of The Groves, 1515 W. White Oak, Independence.
    Rev. Stephens is Associate Pastor Emeritus at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence and active in community organizations. Guest musicians are Jeanette Hicks and Lauren Hall.
    Chapel Hill youth leaving on mission
    Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Blue Springs will say farewell to their senior high youth when they depart for their mission trip to Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota on Sunday (June 8) and return on Friday. They will present a Mission Trip Talk on June 22, following the 10:30 a.m. worship service with a show and dessert event.
    A New Members Class will be held at 10 a.m. June 14 in Stone Hall. If you’re interested in learning about Chapel Hill, or what it means to be Presbyterian, your invited to join in for the Faith and Discovery class. New members will be received at the 10:30 a.m. worship service on June 22.
