  • Fike gets shutout win in Arkansas

  • Garrett Phillips struck out eight through six innings on the mound and added a pair of hits and an RBI at the plate Thursday to lead Blue Springs Post 499 Fike to a 4-0 victory over Rogers (Ark.) in its second game at the Mountain Home (Ark.) Tournament.
    Phillips allowed just three hits and three walks. Blake Roberts pitched the seventh inning.
    Nic Mertes and Cale Benson (double) also had an RBI each for Fike (4-1), which scored one run each in the first and third innings and two in the fifth inning.
    LEE’S SUMMIT HAWTHORN BANK OUTLAWS 11, LEE’S SUMMIT POST 189 PIRATES 4: The Outlaws erased a 2-1 deficit with seven runs over the third and fourth innings Wednesday in the first game of an American Legion baseball Zone 2 West doubleheader at Legacy Park.
    The Outlaws scored three runs in the fourth, two of them coming on a two-out throwing error, and added four in the fifth. Dalton Woods (4 runs) and Herb Byers each had a double, single and two RBIs to pace the Outlaws at the plate, while Quentin Bradford and Brett Conrow added a hit and two runs apiece.
    P.J. Seufert got the win after he scattered six hits and struck out six in five innings. Saul Nuñez took the loss for the Pirates, who got two hits and an RBI from Blake Chura.
    Led by Adam Howe’s three hits, the Pirates led the second game 9-1 through six innings before it was suspended due to park curfew. It will be finished at a later date.
    BLUE SPRINGS ROD’S SPORTS A’S 3, SEDALIA POST 642 TRAVELERS 2: Brandon Bennefeld's squeeze bunt scored Jared Lafal in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving the visiting A’s the victory and a sweep of Sedalia in Wednesday’s night Zone 2 East doubleheader. The A's won the first game 12-4.
    Lafal singled, took second on an interference call and was sacrificed to third before the squeeze bunt. David Stober pitched the final two innings in relief of Alex VanZandt for the victory. The A’s (12-1, 2-0) had only three hits and Sedalia (10-6, 0-2) managed just two.
