A reward has been increased for information leading to an arrest in connection with heavy vandalism in Independence.

When employees of Cable-Dahmer Chevrolet came to work on June 9, two Mondays ago, they found damage – vehicles keyed, smashed headlights, mirrors and windows – to 28 vehicles.

“A crowbar, I would think,” is how General Manager Marty Dahmer put it.

The total damage is estimated at more than $100,000.

Cable-Dahmer Chevrolet, 1834 S. Noland Road, has had a few minor incidents in the past but nothing like this, Dahmer said.

The Independence Police Department and the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline are asking for the public’s help. A $5,000 contribution announced Tuesday brings to $7,000 the reward for information leading to an arrest.

Information can be submitted anonymously. Call 816-474-TIPS (8477), or go to www.KCcrimestoppers.com, or text TIP452 and your information to 274637.
