  • Mavs renew affiliation with Wolves

  • Missouri Mavericks team president and general manager Brent Thiessen admits the news that his team will continue its affiliation with the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves for the 2014-15 season might not be as exciting as the announcement of a new coach or player.
“But we are excited to renew our affiliation with Chicago,” Thiessen said Thursday afternoon, “because it allows us to get quality players and maintain a high level of creditability in our league.
“We don't get Henrik Odegaard or Eric Castonguay last year without our affiliation with the Wolves. They have been great to work with; they are a first-class organization. Our players get excited about the prospects of playing in Chicago.”
This will be the fourth year the Mavericks will have an affiliation with the Wolves, who are affiliated with the National Hockey League’s St. Louis Blues. Ødegaard, a defenseman who played with his native Norway in the 2014 Olympics, was assigned to Missouri at the start of the 2013-14 season by Chicago.
He and Castonguay, who will play in Norway this season, were called up by the Wolves to fill postseason roster spots.
“This is a great chance for our players to see what it is like to play at the AHL level,” Thiessen said. “A player who is with the Mavericks might have a greater chance of making it to the AHL because of our affiliation with the Wolves.”
