  • Blue Springs Post 499 Fike rallied from a five-run deficit to force extra innings before Mitchell (S.D.) scored in the bottom of the 10th to post 13-12 victory in the Sunday’s championship game of the Fargo-Moorhead Tournament on the North Dakota-Minnesota border.
    Earlier Sunday, Fike (15-4) dropped a 4-3 decision to Totino Grace. On Saturday Post 499 notched an 8-1 win over Winnipeg. It also had won twice Friday.
    Garrett Phillips pitched a seven-hitter with five strikeouts for a six-inning complete-game win over Winnipeg. Nic Mertes, Cale Benson (double, 2 RBIs), Blake Roberts and Derek Case (double) had two hits apiece, and Braden Younkin also had two RBIs. Zach Ehlen rapped a double and two singles and scored twice against Totino Grace, and Victor Schofield suffered the loss in relief of Adam Smith.
    In the championship game, Mitchell scored four times in the fifth for a 12-7 lead before Fike roared back with a run in the sixth and four in the seventh. Ehlen slapped four hits, scored three times and had two RBIs, Benson singled twice and homered for three RBIs, Roberts doubled twice and singled and Mertes blasted a home run and tallied four RBIs.
    BLUE SPRINGS ROD’S SPORTS A’S 10, INDEPENDENCE POST 21 6: The weather was the big winner in the Price Cutter Tournament at Springfield, denying the Athletics of a possible tournament title. The A’s (26-4) improved to 4-0 in the tournament with Saturday’s victory over Post 21, but then the rains came and the remainder of the tournament was washed out.
    Kirk Finley got the win for the A’s. Jeremy Lufft singled twice and hit a two-run homer and singled twice to power the victory, as the A’s took the lead for good with a six-run fourth for an 8-2 advantage. David Stober singled twice, scored one run and drove in two, and Corbin Hare hit a two-run homer and doubled.
    Cody Gregory singled three times for Post 21 (9-15), Nico Pike singled twice, Nic Adrales singled and doubled with one RBI and Myles Odom singled with two RBIs. Justin Madsen took the loss.
    PIRATES GO 2-1: The Lee’s Summit Post 189 Pirates went 2-1 in three American Legion zone games over the weekend. The Pirates split with Sedalia Post 642 Friday at Legacy Park, losing 18-2 and rebounding for a 9-2 victory.
    The Pirates prevailed 13-8 in the first game of a a Zone 2 West doubleheader Saturday at St. Joseph Post 11. The second game was rained out.
    The Pirates are 10-16 and 7-6, Sedalia 15-14 and 4-8 and St. Joseph 1-13 and 1-10.
    BEARS SPLIT TWO TOURNAMENT GAMES: In a weekend tournament at Oak Grove, the Independence VFW Post 1000 Bears defeated the Kansas City Sharks 5-2 behind the pitching of Eli Henderson and fell 9-3 to A Game Baseball. Gannon Ogle suffered the loss. The Bears are 6-17.
