  • Kohl’s new look in Independence
Kohl’s in Independence has remodeled and is holding a grand re-opening.
The company, based in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, has 1,160 stores, including 26 in Missouri. It has 13 distribution centers across the country, one of which is in Blue Springs.
The Independence store, 18800 E. 39th St., is one of more than 30 to be remodeled this year. The re-opening, with a ribbon-cutting, starts at 8:45 a.m. Friday.
‘In the City’ Day is this Friday
The Independence Chamber of Commerce is holding its second annual “In the City” Day this Friday. It’s meant for those who live or work in Independence to show some hometown pride.
Participants, including businesses, have bought orange T-shirt for the day, and those wearing the shirts gather at noon in the chamber parking lot, 210 W. Truman Road, for an “Independence family photo.” There’s also a creative Facebook photo contest. Call Alex Colley at the chamber, 816-252-4745, for more information.
Senior living center coming to Blue Springs
O’Reilly Development Co. has begun construction of Parkway Senior Living on Adams Dairy Parkway south of Interstate 70 in Blue Springs. The facility, on 15 acres, is to have 40 assisted-living units, 32 memory-care units, and 76 independent living units. It’s expected to open in mid-2015.
    HCA, Walgreens in collaboration
The HCA Midwest Health System and Walgreens have announced what they call “coordinated and expanded health-care services” in a collaboration between the two companies.
Patients of the HCA Midwest Health System, which includes Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, will be able to use the Healthcare Clinics that are at some Walgreens stores. Licensed nurse practitioners can provide care for those 18 months old and older. The idea is to give patients walk-in care options for minor injuries or illnesses, as well as testing and screening, when physicians’ offices may be closed or when a visit to the emergency room isn’t needed. The collaboration also means information, with the patient’s consent, can be shared with HCA Midwest Health System physicians, making overall care more efficient.
