  • Area players start in top half of Missouri Junior Amateur

  • Blue Springs South High School seniors Kyle Barbee and Jack Steinbeck each shot rounds of 4-over-par 76 during first day of the Missouri Junior Amateur Golf Championships at the Paradise Pointe Complex in Smithville. They are among 13 players tied for 50th out of 131 in the boys age 14-18 flight.
    Lee’s Summit’s Logan Dahmer shot 86 and is tied for 112th in the two-day tournament. Andy Spencer of Prairie Village, Kan., leads after a 4-under 68.
    In the girls 14-18 field, Blue Springs High School junior Jailyn Marshall is eighth out of 32 players after a 12-over 84. In the 12-13 field, Lee’s Summit’s McKenna Rice shot 92 and leads the girls amongst the 15 players (12th overall).
