Police say a resident of northeast Independence shot a man who broke into his home in the middle of the night.
The Independence Police Department says the incident, which it is calling a home invasion, happened at about 4 a.m. Wednesday in the 1300 block of McHenry Street. A man broke into the home through the front door.
“At some point, there was a confrontation between him and the homeowner,” said IPD spokesman Tom Gentry.
The homeowner fired several shots at the intruder, wounding him. The intruder fled the home, and then a neighbor took him to the hospital, where he was reported to have non-life-threatening wounds.
No charges have been filed yet. Police gave no information on a possible motive for the incident.
“It’s still an ongoing investigation,” Gentry said.
