The Rainbow Center in Blue Springs is hosting a geocache adventure this Saturday morning.

Participants, made up of either families or teams, will scour Blue Springs, Independence or Lee’s Summit businesses, parks and other venues to find hidden containers - also known as caches - for the chance to win cash and other giveaways. Teams or families can choose between receiving latitude and longitude coordinates or a traditional scavenger hunt with written clues to find the caches.

However, finding the cache is just part of the “Cache to Care” adventure, said Jill Calvert of Rainbow Center. Participating teams will also have to complete a series of activities, such as performing a task at a business or cleaning up a park, as well as finding caches.

Calvert said Cache to Care is a point-based contest rather than a race to see what team can find the most caches in the fastest time. For instance, she said, teams that drive to find hidden cache locations will be required to put all team members’ driver licenses inside a sealed envelope. That way if a team’s vehicle is stopped by a police officer for speeding, the team will lose points for having a broken a sealed envelope.

Registration for the Rainbow Center’s inaugural event is $25 per person in a team. A Family Adventure Pack is also available for $60 and includes up to five participants, with at least two members under the age of 18. Each team must include one driver, who is at least 21 years or older, and one navigator, who is age 15 or older. Drivers cannot be navigators. Automobile insurance verification is also required. To pre-register, visit  or call the Rainbow Center at 816-229-3869. Registration is also available the day of the event beginning at 8 a.m. at the Rainbow Center, 900 N.W. Woods Chapel Road in Blue Springs.

Cache to Care starts at 9 a.m. Saturday and will conclude around 11:30 a.m. with music, food and other prizes inside a celebration tent near the Rainbow Center. All proceeds collected at the event will benefit children and adults with special needs.
