Christopher, a former individual high school state champion for Lee’s Summit North High School, fired a 2-over-par 74 Wednesday – three strokes better than her opening-round effort – but dropped from a 12th-place tie to a tie for 13th in the process.
Christopher, who played collegiately at Indiana State, started with three birdies on the front nine and shot a 2-under 34 but faltered with five bogeys and just one birdie on the back nine for a 40 to put her at plus-7 for the three-round tournament at The Golf Club of Creekmoor in Raymore.
Blue Springs South graduate Jordan Rehkow of Lee’s Summit shot 85 to go with her first-round 80 and is in a tie for 26th place at 165 (plus-21).
Logan Thorp, also a Blue Springs South grad, shot 81 Wednesday after struggling to a 90 Tuesday and moved up from 38th to 34th at 171. Her sister, South senior Tara Thorp, remained in 43rd place after shooting 95 for a 192 total.
Ellen Port of St. Louis, an eight-time champion of the Missouri Women’s Golf Association event and captain of the 2014 U.S. Curtis Cup team, fired a 3-under 69 to grab a share of the lead at 2-under 142 with former University of Oregon golfer Hanule Seo of Chesterfield. Gianna Misenhelter of Overland Park, Kan., is three strokes back at 145. Defending champion Catherine Dolan of Ballwin, Mo., is tied for eighth at 149.
