The Fort Osage Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held their June meeting with a brunch at the home of Regent Christine Hughes of Blue Springs. We were pleased to have Mary Jean Eisenhower (the granddaughter of Dwight D. and Mamie Eisenhower) as our guest speaker at the chapter’s June 14th meeting.

Mary Jean spoke about her 17 years with People to People, an organization that President Eisenhower founded after leaving office to promote peace and foster understanding and respect among the peoples of the world. Mary Jean also shared stories of her childhood and the close relationship she had with her grandparents, especially her grandmother, Mamie. She also spoke of Mamie’s devotion to the DAR. Both of these women share a love for the DAR principles of historic preservation, education and patriotism.
