It's that time of year again in Independence to spruce up your neighborhood school.
The seventh annual Project Shine takes place this Saturday, July 12, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year it will be at five Independence School District buildings.
These facilities include: Bryant Elementary, 827 W. College Street in Independence; Fairmount Elementary, 120 N. Cedar; Sugar Creek Elementary, 11424 Gill Street in Sugar Creek; Pioneer Ridge Middle School, 1656 S. Speck Road in Independence; and William Chrisman High School, 1223 N. Noland Road.
Volunteers can either help all day or any time during the event’s hours by either painting classroom walls, school hallways or railings and curbs; cleaning various school rooms and helping landscape the front of the selected buildings. Participants must be 16 years of age or older.
Each volunteer will also receive a free Project Shine T-shirt for their efforts, and lunch and beverages will be provided.
