  • Westlake Ace Hardware has teamed up with the Kansas City Salvation Army to help collect money for fans this summer.
The hardware chain is kicking off its Salvation Army Fan Drive with a donation of 100 box fans for low-income seniors, qualified families with children and adults with disabilities in the Kansas City area. Residents can help out by visiting an area Westlake Ace Hardware store to donate money for the purchase of fans.
Two Eastern Jackson County Westlake stores are at 415 U.S. 24 in Independence and 918 S.W. Missouri 7 in Blue Springs.
From July 19 through Aug. 3, all Kansas City-area Westlake stores will collect donations to benefit the local Salvation Army. For every dollar raised during the two-week period, Westlake Hardware will purchase fans at cost for the Salvation Army so they will be able to provide even more fans to Kansas City residents when demand is the highest.
Make donations of $5 to $20 at the checkout counter.
“Heat poses a very real danger to our elderly clients, families with young children and those with medical issues,” said Major Charles Smith, divisional commander for The Salvation Army Kansas City in a release. “All the money raised will stay local and these box fans are critical to keeping those without air conditioning or who are on a fixed income, comfortable and safe during the hot summer months.”
For more information about eligibility or to receive a fan, contact the Kansas City Salvation Army at 816-968-9432.
