Blue Springs South senior shortstop Colton Pogue continues to pile up honors.
Pogue has been named to the USA Today’s American Family Insurance All-USA Missouri Baseball team for the 2014 season.
Pogue, who will play for Western Illinois in college, was a first-team choice at shortstop. He hit .441 with seven home runs, 15 doubles, 35 RBIs, 43 runs scored and a .784 slugging percentage while leading the Jaguars to a third-place finish in the Class 5 state tournament. Pogue was also a first-team all-state choice, the Suburban Big Six Conference Player of the Year and The Examiner Player of the Year.
Pogue’s teammate, senior Reece Eddins, was a second-team selection at pitcher, and Blue Springs senior Kyle Reed was a second-team choice at outfielder.
Eddins, who will play collegiately at Nebraska, was 7-4 with a 2.61 earned run average and 68 strikeouts in 59 innings while hitting .437 with four homers and 25 RBIs.
Reed, who will play at Missouri State University, hit .429 with three home runs, 14 doubles, 16 RBIs, 26 runs and a .753 slugging percentage.
Lee’s Summit West put two players on the first team. Pitcher Alex Lange was chosen as the Player of the Year for Missouri after going 9-0 with a 0.91 ERA. Senior Monte Harrison, who hit .433 with 35 RBIs and was a second-round draft pick (50th overall) by the Milwaukee Brewers, was chosen in the outfield.
The team was selected from teams in all classes in Missouri.
