  • Back Yard Burgers customers in Independence, Blue Springs and Lee’s Summit joined the fight against childhood cancer and other deadly diseases in a recent campaign. Back Yard Burgers patrons raised $7,550 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital during the 6th annual St. Jude Give thanks. Give hope. campaign, exceeding Back Yard Burgers’ goal of $1,500.
This year, Back Yard Burgers joined more than 100 participating partners nationwide and asked customers to purchase a spring-themed $1 paper pin-up during checkout to support St. Jude.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way in treating and defeating childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. It is because of generous donors, like Back Yard Burgers, and loyal customers that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for anything, including treatment, travel, housing or food.
"The customers recognized the St. Jude brand and were very generous throughout the two month event," said Gene Scassellati of Back Yard Burgers. "We very seldom heard a no and everyone was excited about the money we were raising."
This is Back Yard Burgers’ first year to partner with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent since it opened 52 years ago.
