Blue Springs graduate Michael Pixley has capped off a stellar high school wrestling career with another honor.
Pixley, who will wrestle collegiately at the University of Illinois, was selected for USA Today’s inaugural American Family Insurance All-USA High School Wrestling Team.
Pixley was a second-team choice to the national squad at 195 pounds after capturing his second straight Class 4 state championship in that weight class for the Wildcats.
Pixley finished the season 43-1 with his only loss coming to fellow second-teamer Bo Nickal (who was honored at 170 pounds) from Allen, Texas, in the prestigious Kansas City Stampede tournament last December.
Pixley was one of only two Missouri wrestlers to make the first, second or third teams. Ke-Shawn Hayes of Park Hill, who won his second straight state title with a 49-0 mark, was also a second-team selection at 126 pounds.
The All-USA Wrestler of the Year was Chance Marsteller, a 170-pound four-time Pennsylvania state champion at Kennard-Dale High School in Fawn Grove, Pa., who went 166-0 in his prep career. He will wrestle collegiately at Oklahoma State University.
