An Independence deputy chief of police is leaving.
Lee’s Summit on Wednesday announced Travis Forbes as its new police chief, effective Sept. 2.
Lt. Col. Forbes has been with the Independence Police Department for 22 years, working his way up through the ranks and becoming one of IPD’s two deputy chiefs last year.
In Lee’s Summit, Forbes replaces Joe Piccinini, who resigned in January. The city says it conducted an extensive hiring process, beginning with “listening posts” in the community to find out what residents wanted in a new chief.
Forbes’ father is the chief in Lone Jack, and his grandfather was a Missouri state trooper.
