    Monument rededication
All you history buffs out there mght be interested in a ceremony taking place at Woodlawn Cemetery Saturday morning.
Monuments to the soldiers who fought and died in Civil War battles dot the country, and what is considered to be one of the oldest is in Independence. Members of the Civil War Roundtable of Western Missouri will rededicate the 2nd Colorado Monument at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The Roundtable says it’s the third oldest Civil War monument in the U.S. and possibly the oldest west of the Mississippi. It was erected July 16, 1864, to honor nine members of the 2nd Colorado Volunteer Calvary who fell during the fight at the Grinter Farm.
It’s not a grand monument, but it is historically notable. The rededication will include a short history of the battle, a salute and a reading of the names of the fallen.
Woodlawn Cemetery is at 701 S. Noland Road, Independence.
